In order to support chief selector Wahab Riaz, PCB on Friday named Butt, Kamran Akmal, and Rao Iftikhar Anjumm as three consultant members.

Former Pakistan captain and PCB chairman Ramiz was reported as stating, “It’s insane to have a selection committee consisting of a member whose decision can be termed as a display of filial affection or non-affection and another who was locked up for match-fixing.”

“With immediate effect, the three have taken on their roles in the selection panel. The next five-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to begin on January 12, 2024, after the end of the Test trip to Australia, is their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector, the PCB stated in a statement on Friday.

Ramiz has always expressed his strong opposition to corrupt cricket players having any role in Pakistan Cricket’s official structure.

He has discussed this topic often and was among the well-known figures who spoke out against Mohammad Amir rejoining the national team.

Nevertheless, the fast bowler returned and continued to play for a number of years after a lengthy suspension brought on by a spot-fixing case.

If you ask me, I think these corrupted cricket players need to start their own food stores. Giving in to famous people hurts Pakistani cricket, I’m sure of that,” Ramiz said in 2020.

Along with Amir and Muhammad Asif, Butt was one of the three cricket players implicated in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal that occurred during Pakistan’s test series in England.

The former captain of Pakistan participated in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs, and 24 T20Is before the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended him for ten years and even had him serve time in jail in the UK.

In addition to Butt, Umar Akmal’s brother Kamran Akmal was banned by PCB for failing to disclose a corruption attempt. Akmal has always supported his sibling.

Conversely, Ramiz has been a strong character in combating corruption, but he has to deal with the opposing viewpoint in Pakistan, which believes that Butt ought to be given another opportunity after paying for his sins.

Notably, Butt continued to instruct setup and commentary in Pakistan after getting the suspension, although he never played for Pakistan again.
